Simply Hummus

Hummus is a very popular recipe when it comes to preparing a Vegan diet. It is widely used as a dip or spread in toast or tortilla or wraps. Its texture is smooth and creamy and tastes great. But then what is this Hummus made of? Lets’ dive in to unwrap its flavors.

Hummus is a middle-east recipe, with the predominant uses of Chickpeas. The middle-east has an abundant supply of Chickpeas and no doubt it is used in their dishes.

The earliest mention of Hummus dates back to Egypt in the 13th century, as per some historical sources. But its origin is still, debatable, as Greeks, Arabs, even Israelis claim it as their own. Where ever may its origin is, Hummus over the years, has crossed its middle-eastern boundaries and found its place in the western supermarkets and many main streams restaurants.

Although, we are free to add or subtract some of the ingredients as per our taste (except the key ingredients of course), today I concentrated on the most basic recipe of HUMMUS.

I N G R E D I E N T S ::

  • 1 Cup Chickpeas,
  • 1/3 cup Tahini (sesame paste),
  • 2-4 tsp of normal water ( to build the consistency),
  • ½  tsp of cumin powder,
  • ½ chili powder,
  • 2 medium-sized garlic cloves,
  • ½ lemon,
  • Salt to taste.

P R O C E S S::

  • Add all the ingredients in a food processor and puree until smooth.
  • Taste the seasoning and add if needed.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with toppings as per your desire. Or transfer it in a sealed container. Your Hummus will remain fresh at least for 3 days.

Hope you like the recipe and feel free to comment below.
