Building Healthy Habits

We all at some point of time have felt the need to build a Healthy Lifestyle. The reasons may vary:: you felt the need to tone up your body, or wanted to win that running competition, or wanted to come first in class…..your ‘Why’ could be endless…But the end is almost the same. That is building some healthy habits. Today we are going to deal with some basic and general habits that we all could include in our daily routine.

But before that, you need to answer a question to yourself…why you need to do this? This ‘Why’-Power has much to do with starting some of the healthy habits. After all, habits are some things we do quite often and at a regular pace. And adapting to new habits-be it healthy habits or not-has to do with you. You should first be clear to your mind ‘I wanted to include this habit into my daily routine because this will lead to something I honestly wanted in my life’. Say, for example, I wanted to be a good runner and for that I have to include new habits like waking early, having the right potion of nutrition and many more. So this ‘why’ here is very important to motivate you down.

Let us now see some of the healthy habits that we all could include in our daily Lifestyle without much pain.

  • Drink water frequently to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. This is all the more important in Indian summer as we sweat a lot. Nowadays we have many apps that sent a reminder every hour to remind you of drinking water. This is a great help to stay hydrated. As a regular intake of water keeps many diseases away. Water flushes out the toxins accumulated in our body.
  • Eat your breakfast every day. As we so busy now, we tend to neglect our Breakfast quite often. But it is the most important meal of the day as we are having no food the entire night before. And we should have a heavy breakfast if possible. Our metabolism is at its peak in the early morning, so having a healthy and heavy Breakfast gives us the much-needed energy to work for the whole day.
  • Try to do exercise regularly. Normally we all do sitting jobs and spend 8 to 10 hours in a day in that position. So we need to move our body to keep the diseases at bay. If you are not a gym person, a light stretching exercise or simple Yoga could be a great help.
  • At least spend 10 minutes every day to meditate. Meditation helps to relax and rejuvenate your body and mind. So do it every day. And follow the same time every day, preferably in the morning to meditate.
  • Wake up early and try to create a morning routine. Morning is very peaceful when you can connect with Nature and yourself. Waking up early gives you an extra couple of hours that we all badly needed now.
  • Sleep 8 hours a day. I know it is very hard if you are a night owl like me. But plan your day accordingly. Because if you are sleep deprived, you will feel tired and exhausted all through the day. You will get less focus on your job. Sleeping 8 hours not only recharges your body but your mind too.
  • Cut of the screen time. We tend to spend hours just scrolling our mobile on irrelevant events and photos people share on social sites. Limit this screen time and you could utilize those precious hours into productive ways.
  • Make a habit of taking a regular potion of vegetables, fruits, and nuts in your diet. Stop taking processed food on regular basis. And replace them with healthy foods, combining locally available vegetables, fruits, and nuts.
  • Try to cook at least a meal per day. Cooking meals frequently will help you to appreciate and enjoy homemade food. Try out the age-old recipes your grandmother handed down to your generation. You have the responsibility to pass it down to your children. Feed them with these recipes so that they too could understand and appreciate our ancient food culture.

These lists of options to build healthy habits are endless. I know I have skipped many of them. Comment below some of the habits that are coming to your mind. They would be a great addition to my list.
