In order to embrace new ideas, we sometimes need  to purge out some old ideas. The same applies for your wardrobe. In order to get in some new clothes, we need to rearrange our wardrobe and purges out some items we don’t use now.

Very often, we tend to buy tops or t-shirts just for their looks, or maybe it is in trend or just because some of our famous celebs promoted it. Or simply that we get them at a discount. It is a general rule that we use 20%  of our clothes for 80% of the times (the 20/80 rule), so much so that our 80 % of clothes remain unused or we use it once a while. So when it comes to organizing our wardrobe we need to follow certain rules in order to make maximum utilization of our storage space or the clothes we have.

Organizing a wardrobe is a huge task, especially if we had a habit of buying clothes, accessories, bags very often. We can organizing our wardrobe in two ways. We could pile up our stuff at a place and then categories them as per our need. But this approach is quite scary to see such a huge pile of clothes. And secondly, we may not have the time to spend to organizing whole wardrobe at a stretch. I prefer putting out stuffs from two racks one at a time and organizing it.

My Wardrobe has four racks and a hanger rode in my wardrobe, and it  takes two sittings to organize it properly. I basically used it to store clothes and I had a different place to store my accessories and other stuffs. I starts from upper racks and then move downwards.

In my part of India, we have three most dominant seasons- winter, rainy season and summer. Winter days are short and I have few clothes for the season but they takes a lot of space. I am writing this blog at the onset of Summer, hence, I will give preference to my summer clothes as the winter items are by now cleaned and moved into a different closet.

Try to maintain a color code

Keep two bins handy- recycler and donation bins:: I normally evaluate my clothes by the frequency I wear. If it is more than 6 months that I last wore it, it keep it in donation bin, if I want to give away or store it in recycler bin if I like to reuse it, by creating a mix and match outfit.

Items with sentimental Values:: I also have a plastic box for keeping my stuffs, which had a sentimental values attached to it. For example, I have kept a green colored Kurti, which was the first gift of my husband. Although it doesn’t fit me now, but I always keep it in my wardrobe.

Prioritise the items as per needs:: I go to office every day, so my office clothes is my first priority. I kept them above every other stuffs, as I am a frequent user of them.

More important items in Visible shelf:: For me, I need to keep my office clothes at a visible length of the wardrobe, so that I could grab them as quickly as possible in every morning.

Color Code:: I prefer to maintain my clothes as per its clothes. Red goes with red, and next comes orange and then yellow. This give a color coordination in my wardrobe and it also gives me a quick idea of the colors I have to wear.

Special Clothes:: Special occasion clothes are used very less but they are costly so they should be kept in good condition. I prefer to keep them in storage bags which are easily available in amazon or flipkart. This not only separate them from the rest of clothes but also help me to keep them away from dust.

I generally keep all these in minds while organizing my wardrobe. Please feel free to share your ways of organizing your wardrobe.
